Ironman is a big, daunting, exciting challenge. Everyone has their own reasons and goals for Ironman, so the approach taken for each person will be different.

Returning again?

If you're returning again then your goals are likely to have changed. Doing the same old training the same old way will only give you the same old results. I'll work with you to develop a new approach.

The first step is a review of your last Ironman performance, training leading up to it, and what you want to achieve this time. We'll make a plan that fits it all together for you.

We'll put together a plan to re-enforce your strengths, work on any weaknesses, and challenge you in the right ways. By combining your previous experience with my approaches for getting stronger and going faster, we can have you ready to achieve your Ironman goal.

First timers

I'll guide you though your Ironman journey.

We'll map out an approach to best works for your circumstances, then I'll be there throughout the journey - monitoring the training, answering questions, and helping you work towards the goals.

As the event nears we'll develop a race day plan that will work for you. We'll work through your expectations, worries, strategies, and contingencies, and ensure you're ready for a great Ironman experience and result.

I still remember what it's like being a first time Ironman, so I'm well equipped to help you on this journey.

Fitness + Execution = Ironman Success

There are lots of coaches who will give you a training plan to get fit for Ironman, but that's only half the equation. I place a huge emphasis on being ready for the event itself: knowing what to expect, how to pace it appropriatly, getting your nutrition right, and being ready for whatever the day may throw at you.

I'll provide you with the information you need when you need it, answer any and all questions, help you plan your approach to the day, and make sure you are ready and confident for Ironman.

Join Mr Smith's Ironman camp in Taupo

Each year I run an Ironman preparation camp in Taupo*. You get time on the course to test out your plans, seminars and advice, and all the triathlon talk you want! Another great benefit is to hang out with, share, and learn from a bunch of like minded people all there for the same reason.

The camp is highly rated by past participants, with one commenting "I thought I'd be out of my depth here, but it was so reassuring to meet others in the same situation. It was the perfect way to get ready for Ironman".
